Jersey Tiger Moth

21 August 2024

This summer has seen an influx of the Jersey Tiger Moth. This moth, which is common in the Channel Islands, usually visits the south of England in very small numbers but this year, probably due to climate warming, there have been an unusually high number of them about.

Their underwings are usually bright red, although sometimes orange or yellow,  and very visible when they fly although often hidden when at rest.

Footpaths - 1 July

Most paths are now very dry although the warm, wet weather has encouraged lots of growth leading to some paths being a bit overgrown.

Report overgrown rights of way to East Sussex and other paths to the Friends of Combe Valley.
