Waxwings visit the valley

Every year several hundred Waxwings, which breed in northern Europe, fly to Britain to spend the winter months here.
This year a group of Waxwings decided to spend Christmas in the Combe Valley Countryside Park, feeding on the berries. Bigger than a robin but smaller than a blackbird, they do have very distinctive markings.
Waxwing groupWord soon got around so they were quickly joined by an even larger group of bird-watchers. These excellent photographs were taken by local bird photographer, Peter Nest.
