Rare Willow Emeralds in the Park

Emerald Damselflies are fairly rare and hardly ever seen in the Countryside Park.
However, this week two have been spotted in different parts of the park on the same afternoon. Slightly larger than the very common Large Reds or Azures, they have much slimmer bodies and are unusual in that they don’t fold their wings back over their bodies when at rest like most other damselflies.
Another unusual damselfly that was seen earlier this year is the White-legged Damselfly. These are not usually found this close to the coast, but several have been spotted in the Park over the last few years. They favour tall vegetation near slow-moving muddy streams.
