One of the long-term aims of the Country Park is to improve the state of some of the footpaths to make them more accessible throughout the year and to provide additional facilities for the people who use them.
Our next project concerns the old railway track on the south side of the valley. Remedial work will be carried out on the bridges to remove ivy from the structures and improvements will be made to the safety railings. Steps will be replaced and extended at the western end to improve access. Holes will be filled, drainage channels cleared and additional drainage installed to improve access along the western section in the wetter months. Picnic areas will be created with tables and benches.
Some of this work will be carried out by infrastructure services provider, McNicholas. Having previously worked with Groundwork on a previous initiative in Brighton, McNicholas were keen to develop the relationship further and help on the construction aspects of this Country Park project, as well as providing well needed labour and expertise. Work will begin this month and will be spread over several months. We expect all paths to remain open even on days when work is being carried out, but ask everyone to take extra care at these times.
